Frankenthaler (purple grape)
The Frankenthaler originates from Italy (South Tirol) and is an ancient variety.
Good, strong growth, but susceptible to mildew and botrytis. Only moderately transportable and cannot be stored for long.
In the unheated greenhouse from mid to end of September. In the heated greenhouse from late June through September.
Large bunches of big, purple grapes, large yield. If there is poor weather in the late summer, the grape does not ripen properly, which also occurs if the yield is too big. The grape turns sweet, but remains red or lighter blue. This can be prevented with sufficient cluster pruning and good thinning.
This grape is cultivated on horizontal canes, but can be pruned back to young wood.
Good grape with a good taste.
